Writer/artist/poet 

Gabby writes scripts for Children’s Television and is also an author of children’s books. She recently finished writing for series one of the new CBeebies pre-school animated show ‘Messy goes to OKIDO’. She has also written an episode of ‘POSTMAN PAT, Special Delivery Service and her original animated series idea ‘Zip and Cuffy’ is in development. As an author, she has written several  children’s picture books, including : ‘A Possum’s Tail’ and ‘London Calls’, both published in 2014 by Tate, contributed to several Okido art & science books published by Thames & Hudson and is working on several more children's picture books for Tate Publishing. Gabby also works as the sub-editor and writer for ‘OKIDO’ kids magazine and is part of the writing team for ECO KIDS PLANET magazine. She runs workshops, art and poetry sessions in schools, has taught in a prison art class, managed an art gallery for many years and has worked in PR and marketing.

TELEVISION/SCRIPTWRITING:

‘Messy goes to OKIDO’ – CBeebies/Doodle Productions.  52 x 11 mins.
Writer on this narrative, character led, pre-school animated show based on the children’s arts and science magazine ‘Okido’. Gabby adapted and formatted the show for television. She was commissioned to write several episodes and act as a creative consultant. She also wrote the lyrics for the trailer theme song.

Part of the regular writing team for this independent magazine for curious kids who want to engage with their environment.

Wrote and illustrated 'Curious Creatures' series for this online kids/parents magazine.

Cityread London
Specially commissioned poem for Cityread 2013 called ‘Legend of the Library’. Cityread London is a campaign to spread a love of books and reading to the widest possible audience throughout the capital.  

Elvis in Wilderleaves
Currently working on a novel for 9-12 year olds; think Alice in Wonderland meets Bleak House.

AUTHOR VISITS
Gabby also runs workshops and reading/poetry sessions in schools, children’s festivals and even took part in the first ever Brixton Kids Bookjam 2014.

BACKGROUND information...

My first picture book - called A Possum's Tail - is a collaboration with brilliant illustrator Alex Barrow and came out 6th February 2014. A second book called London Calls! is a whistlestop tour of London, led by a Pearly grandma and her granddaughter. London Calls! came out on 4th September 2014 and is my second book with Alex Barrow. A Possum's Tail was nominated for the 2015 CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal.
Both books are by Tate Publishing.

As well as writing children's books and for children's television, I do both private and commercial art commissions, a selection of which you can see here.
The children's shoes are part of an ongoing series of "first shoes", including several cards commissioned by the Almanac Gallery.

Hand-drawn, bespoke invitations, announcements, portraits and menus, such as the examples here are also available upon request..

OKIDO MAGAZINE AND TV

I've been a regular contributor to children's art and science magazine OKIDO since 2007. HAPPY 10th BIRTHDAY (WOW) beautiful Okido!

An Okido animated kids tv show, based on characters from the magazine is currently in production with Doodle/Squintopera http://www.doodle-productions.com. The original adaptation of the show (co-created/adapted by myself, producer Ceri Barnes and Doodle Productions) was acquired by CBeebies. 52 x 11 minute episodes will be coming to a screen near you soon in 2015.......... . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .............................
